The History of Drugs

Drug use and abuse is as old as mankind itself. Human beings have always had a desire to eat or drink substances that make them feel relaxed, stimulated, or euphoric. Humans have used drugs of one sort or another for thousands of years. Wine was used at least from the time of the early Egyptians; narcotics from 4000 B.C.; and medicinal use of marijuana has been dated to 2737 BC in China.

As time went by, "home remedies" were discovered and used to alleviate aches, pains and other ailments. Most of these preparations were herbs, roots, mushrooms or fungi. They had to be eaten, drunk, rubbed on the skin, or inhaled to achieve the desired effect.

One of the oldest records of such medicinal recommendations is found in the writings of the Chinese scholar-emperor Shen Nung, who lived in 2735 BC He compiled a book about herbs, a forerunner of the medieval pharmacopoeias that listed all the then-known medications.

He was able to judge the value of some Chinese herbs. For example, he found that Ch'ang Shan was helpful in treating fevers. Such fevers were, and still are, caused by malaria parasites.

South and Central American Indians made many prehistoric discoveries of drug-bearing plants. Mexican Aztecs even recorded their properties in hieroglyphics on rocks, but our knowledge of their studies comes mainly from manuscripts of Spanish monks and medical men attached to the forces of the conquistador Hernan Cortes (1485-1547).

Pre-Columbian Mexicans used many substances, from tobacco to mind-expanding (hallucinogenic) plants, in their medicinal collections. The most fascinating of these substances are sacred mushrooms, used in religious ceremonies to induce altered states of mind, not just drunkenness.

These were all naturally occurring substances. No refinement had occurred, and isolation of specific compounds (drugs) had not taken place.

As the centuries unrolled and new civilizations appeared, cultural, artistic, and medical developments shifted toward the new centers of power. A reversal of the traditional search for botanical drugs occurred in Greece in the fourth century BC, when Hippocrates (estimated dates, 460-377 BC), the "Father of Medicine," became interested in inorganic salts as medications.

The history of Computers

The development of the modern day computer was
the result of advances in technologies and man's need to quantify.
Papyrus helped early man to record language and numbers.
\The abacus was one of the first counting machines. .
Some of the earlier mechanical counting machines lacked
the technology to make the design work. For instance,
some had parts made of wood prior to metal manipulation
and manufacturing. Imagine the wear on wooden gears.

Google AdSense Case Study

HomeTips.com nails down big revenue with Google AdSense.

Home advice website HomeTips.com started out in a backyard clubhouse.
Seeking a quiet, woodsy spot for writing home improvement books,
author Don Vandervort converted the bottom floor of his sons'
two-story treehouse into a small office. He launched
HomeTips.com from that office in 1997, essentially as
an online portfolio to promote his books.
In the decade since, HomeTips has grown into a large and popular site,
thanks to the authority Vandervort has developed and the volume
of content he has collected and posted from his more than two dozen books,
scores of magazine articles, and many television appearances on ABC and HGTV.

Challenge
Until about three years ago, HomeTips' main source of revenue
came from writing, publishing, and licensing books and
content to other companies, such as Sunset Books and Microsoft.
This business expanded significantly after Vandervort moved to
larger offices in Glendale, California, and assembled
a team of editors, writers, and artists.
Though his book and content business was thriving,
the website's meager revenue came from online sales of guides
and reports. When a visitor requested one of these,
Vandervort would email it to them and trust them
to send three dollars. "At that time, I couldn't find
a good system for these small transactions," he recalls.
"It was an interesting way for us to stay in touch with
our visitors' needs, but a money-losing proposition.
We needed advertising for the web business to be viable."
But the small editorial team was far too busy working at
their core business of creating content to develop an advertising program.

"Swimsuit Care"

Swimwear is exposed to a great number of destructive elements:
sand, sun, salt water, body oils or lotions, sweat.
Here are some tips to extend the durability of your swimsuit.

- We suggest cold or warm hand wash after each swimsuit
wear with mild hand soup, and machine wash every 3-4 wears.

- Place your swimsuit in a washing bag and wash on the gentle cycle.
- Dry in the shade to keep the colour in the swimsuit as long as possible.
- Do not bleach, iron, dry clean or tumble dry.
- Do not roll up in a wet towel or store wet.
- It is not recommended to wear a swimsuit in a sauna or spa. Excessive heat can make the fibre melt.
- If you are wearing a swimsuit in chlorine once or twice a
week we suggest to choose polyester swimsuits, not Lycra swimsuits.
- Rough surfaces can damage the material. Put a towel underneath yourself.
With proper care your swimsuit will retain its shape,
colour and lost long even after many wears.

Dramatically increased business income

Having run an insurance business for years,
Art Thomas was hesitant about trying out any
new career paths. But Silva opened his mind
to new possibilities, and he’s now become
a full-time investment broker—
skyrocketing his income in the process.

Unbeatable in the ring"
Giuseppina Del Vicario has adapted Silva to help her anticipate
her opponents’ moves. This ability has helped her win
the Italian martial arts championship in tai chi chuan for 3 consecutive years.

Wrote a bestselling book using Silva
Richard was hopelessly stuck on a book he was writing.
Then, he discovered Silva and used its techniques
to find the inspiration to complete his book,
which would go on to be called Jonathan Livingstone Seagull.

Choosing Swimwear

Finding a high-quality swimsuit is only half the work;
make sure that your swimsuit fits you perfectly.
It is very important to feel comfortable in your swimsuit
so that you can relax and enjoy yourself on
the beach or at the pool. Here are a few tips that should help to
make the most suitable choice. - We recommend getting
a swimsuit one size larger than
everyday lingerie for ultimate comfort and flexibility. -
Choosing the top and bottom sizes separately makes it possible
to get the perfect fit. - Such skin-friendly fibres as polyester
and Lycra will perform the best durability; improve
the speed in the water and retain swimsuit's shape.
- One-piece swimsuits that don't cut into the shoulders,
don't creep and have pleasant, elastic fabric are perfect for women
who are in for swimming. - Underwired tops work
well for full-figured women. -
A high-on-the-thigh cut and "V-type" neckline make
you look much longer and emphasize your smaller waist.
- Include a matching cover-up, pareo or skirt when not swimming.
